Kokkola

The town of Kokkola is an interesting old harbour town on the gulf of Bothnia 500 km north west from Helsinki. Kokkola was founded in 1620 by King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden. Today the town is the regional centre of central Ostrobothnia. But also the most northerly point of coastal Swedish-speaking Ostrobothnia. About 20 % of the town's inhabitants have Swedish as their native language. It's geographically well situated. The port of Kokkola is one of the most important ports on the gulf of Bothnia.
